Kuala Lumpur, affectionately known as KL, is the capital and Malaysia’s most densely populated city. Shopping, nightlife and eating are often the best parts of a trip to KL, but there are many fun things to do, if you know where to look.

Visit Masjid Jamek: With stunning white domes and beautiful design it is well worth a visit, even if just to photograph it. The peace and serenity of the mosque, contrasts with the daily rush of the city and offers a break from the hectic rush outside. There is also a bazaar nearby, selling all sorts of trinkets and souvenirs, great to take home to the family.

See KL from Petronas Towers: The towers are a symbol of KL and can be seen from almost every viewpoint in the city, at night they stand out spectacularly against the skyline. Free tickets are available for the Skybridge (1000 per day) and are handed out on the basis of first come, first served. The view is amazing, both night and day.

Watch the world go by in a coffee shop or cafe: Take time out, relax, and enjoy breakfast in one of the many coffee shops or cafes in KL. People-watch and soak up the bustling atmosphere, as locals go about their day around you.

Revel in the nightlife: From late-night cafes, trendy lounges, clubs to dance the night away, live music and casual bars, KL always has something to entertain those who love the nightlife.

Experience Kuala Lumpur Bird Park: Right near the Perdana Botanical Gardens is KL Bird Park – the world’s largest aviary that you can walk into. With over 3000 birds calling it home, this is a photographer’s wonderland. If you’re a bird lover, you may end up spending the whole day here, so make sure you allow time for what may be a once in a lifetime experience.

Sunway Lagoon Theme Park: With water rides, pools, a massive man-made beach with waves, wildlife shows and much more, it is fun for all the family. Allow at least a day to make the most of the facilities.

Visit the Kuala Gandah Elephant Conservation Centre: Located in beautiful tropical rainforest, only 1 ½ hours from KL, this sanctuary makes a perfect day trip. Come in close contact with semi-wild elephants and learn about the conservation activities undertaken by the team. Enjoy the thrill of feeding and bathing with the elephants in a nearby river – a wonderful experience to remember for years to come. There are many more things to do in Kuala Lumpur, including palaces, museums, or taking a trip on the monorail. So use these tips as a starting point, and explore! KL is a city filled with endless opportunities for fun.
